Caxton’s Type 1. From The Recuyell of the Historyes of Troye (first book printed in English), Caxton and Mansion, Bruges
From Gordon Duff’s Early English Printing (p. 58)
1475
About 1475, Caxton and Mansion also printed at Bruges The Game and Playe of the Chesse. The type of these books differs from all other fonts used by Caxton. It is of rough, angular, awkward design, which shows clearly its relation to current Flemish handwriting, which was rough, angular, and awkward too.
