Under-runners

Continuations of such side notes as are too long to be all placed opposite the paragraph to which they refer, and are run under the text, in order that they may not displace other notes. When so done they should never be extended to the full length of the measure of the text, to avoid confusion, but end within three or four ems of the line according to its length.
