Moschus Javanicus

About equal in size to a full-grown hare, the Napu is dark glossy ferruginous-brown above from intermixed black and brown hairs, with pure white under parts, throat, and chin, and three broad white radiating stripes upon the chest divided by distinct blackish-brown bands. Native to Java and Sumatra, it frequents thickets near the sea-shore, feeds chiefly upon berries, seldom enters the larger forests, and when young is tamed with the greatest facility, passing its time eating, drinking, and sleeping.
