Bearded Argali

Ovis tragelaphus

The Ruffled Mouflon is uniformly a fine reddish yellow, lighter than the European species, with brownish shanks and dorsal line, a black medial stripe and white underparts. Its most singular character is the long hairs, six or seven inches, garnishing the legs and forming a ruff and neck band, while the small horns are quadrangular at the base, faintly wrinkled and inward-pointing; a fifth larger than European sheep, it was killed near Cairo in Egypt.
