Cape Hyrax

Hyrax Capensis

About the size of a Hare but with shorter legs and a clumsier form, this animal is of a uniform grayish brown marked along the back with a darker band, and bears only three toes on the fore feet. It was of frequent occurrence at the Cape of Good Hope, dwelling in the clefts of rocks and, when retiring to its burrows, moving much like the common Rabbit.
