Barbary Ape
Inuus sylvanus
The only quadrumanous animal of the European continent, this ape is limited to Barbary, Egypt, southern Spain, and famously the rock of Gibraltar, where it breeds in inaccessible places and appears in large droves. Commonly walking on all fours yet an active climber, it is gregarious, attacking enemies it can overcome; in captivity it shows uncommon comprehension, agrees with fruit, bread, and boiled vegetables, but grows sullen and morose with age.
