Common Fur-Seal of Commerce

Otaria Falklandica

The Common Fur-Seal of Commerce is long and slender, shaped like a double cone largest at the middle, with a broad flattish head, a black pointed ear and a coat of soft hair over fur, brownish-white above and deep brown beneath, the general colour a lightish grey passing to reddish-white below. Perhaps the most polygamous of large animals, the male reaching near seven feet against the female’s three and a half, it yields the valuable fur of commerce.
