Limacodes Micilia & Doratifera vulnerans

1. Limacodes Micilia. A Surinam moth near two inches across, the wings brilliant blue, the superior pair with a transparent white basal streak, a large angular white central space, and an oval spot near the apex, the under wings with a broad white median stripe. The body is glossy blue with plumose antennae and red legs; its thick green caterpillar bears a saddle-shaped grey patch and spinous hairy elevations, feeding on sweet orange leaves.
2. Doratifera vulnerans. An Australian moth scarcely an inch and two lines across, the anterior wings ferruginous with a silvery margin and changeable chestnut transverse lines, the posterior dull white, thorax and abdomen light brown. Its singular grey caterpillar bears reddish protuberances that open to dart out eight bunches of yellow stings, the wound painful and venomous; feeding on the stringy bark tree, it spins a hard egg-like case resembling fruit upon the stem.
