Parker’s Silurus

Silurus Parkerii

Common in the muddy tidal rivers of Guiana and used for food, Parker’s Silurus measured three feet four inches and weighed twenty-seven pounds, the upper parts fine olive-green, the sides and belly rich yellow, the head broad, flat, and defended by a rough bony plate. The wide mouth bears numerous minute brush-like teeth and six cirrhi, the longest pair eight inches; strong serrated bony spines arm the pectoral and first dorsal fins, the second dorsal adipose, the tail deeply forked.
