Volume 8, Plate XIII / Entomology (Insects)
Scarabæus Atlas
A very singular conspicuous insect, entirely black tinted with greenish bronze especially on the smooth glossy elytra, the head armed with a long slightly recurved acute horn doubly serrated on its inner side. Two toothless horns project from the thorax sides curving toward each other, with a short forward triangular horn over the head, the anterior tibiae three-toothed; a native of Java where it is rare, also occurring in continental Asia.
