Tragelaphus scriptus

An animal of great beauty, its body a bright fulvous bay divided by longitudinal and transverse lines of white into patches almost recalling those of the cameleopard. The male approaches the size of the fallow deer, with black horns about seven inches long, and the species, first noticed in Senegal and said to inhabit Caffraria, appears either very rare or confined to scarcely penetrated interior districts.
