Long-Tailed Polyplectron

Polyplectron chalcurum

Differing from its congeners in wanting ocellated spots and in its lengthened, Argus-like tail, this bird is sombre umber brown over head, neck, breast, belly, and wings, the back and scapulars reddish umber waved with black. The tail is brown with green and violet reflections and mottled with irregular black spots, each tarsus armed with two sharp spurs; the eighteen-inch specimen came from Sumatra.
