Lupus Mexicanus

The wolf of the southern States equals the common in stature but has a broader head, long pointed ears, a thick neck, and a scanty tail, with robust ringed whiskers almost like quills. Its grey fur is marked with rusty tan spots, transverse blackish bars, and fulvous forehead spots, an individual shot in Virginia showing ochry grey passing into buff with a sooty black nose.
