North American Prairie Wolf

Lyciscus latrans

The North American prairie wolf occupies the high sandy plains between the sources of the Saskatchewan and the Missouri, burrowing like foxes and gathering round a hunter at the report of a gun in hopes of spoils. Exceedingly swift, it assembles in great numbers, hunts in large packs, and barks, its fur entirely ashy grey with some white about the breast and the bushy tail tip.
