Volume 28, Plate XIX / Mammalia (Mammals)
Mastiff of Tibet
The mastiff of Tibet is larger than the English, with a thick head, elevated occiput, very pendulous lips, a fold of skin from the eyebrows ending in the jowl, round drooping ears, a remarkably full neck, slightly arched back, and a well-fringed tail turned over the back. Its very rugged hair is deep black, the sides somewhat clouded, with some tawny over the eyes, about the muzzle, and on the limbs; inferior breeds occur elsewhere in the Himalaya.
