Tri-Coloured Humming-Bird

Trochilus tricolor

About three inches long and of great beauty, from Mexico and Brazil, with a slender slightly curved bill and upper parts of brilliant golden-green tinged brown on the forehead, the breast, belly, and under coverts white shading to green on the flanks. The throat and fore neck bear large rounded scaly feathers of brilliant carmine-red forming a ruff when expanded, the nearly even tail narrowing to fine tips, its centre feathers green and the others steel-blue bordered chestnut.
