Violet-Tufted Humming-Bird

Trochilus petasophorus

This is the female of a beautiful species from Brazil, its upper plumage a very clear green brightening on the throat, neck, and breast, while the belly, vent, and under coverts are pure white. A white stripe runs from the mouth below the eye nearly to the ears, the rounded tail green above and paler beneath, crossed with a steel-blue bar and tipped white, the young duller with grey belly and brighter neck-tufts.
