Buffon’s Humming-Bird

Trochilus Buffonii

A large species exceeding five inches, supposed to come from Brazil, with golden-green head, neck, back, and shoulders changing to a reddish tint on the upper tail-coverts, and a brilliant scaly emerald-green covering throat and upper breast. The remaining under parts are of subdued green with a bluish shade, each feather edged pale grey, the vent and flanks intermixed with brown, and the lower coverts pure white; the slightly forked tail is uniform steel-blue.
