Hairy-Legged Humming-Bird

Trochilus hirsutus

Type of a second curved-billed form abounding at Tobago, named from legs slightly plumed below the joints, a character not quite constant, with sexes differing little, no prolonged centre tail feathers, and a loose, almost pendulous nest. About four inches long, the upper body shining green with purple reflections deeply tinged reddish-brown, all under parts bright reddish-brown duller on the flanks, the tail a deep shade of the same, its centre green and crossed near black at the white tips.
