An imposing and more familiar “Picart” book, published at Amsterdam by Zacharie Chatelain in 1733, the year of Picart’s death. Apart from the engravings and the series of fine frameworks around them—so good that they have been often utilized by later printers and decorators—the typography is extremely handsome. The fonts used—of a bold, massive sort—are impressive in effect; and the composition, too, is adequate, and very much in the key of the pretentious plates
